I feel so grateful for my time at the CJE House. The sky was big and the landscape was evocative. I saw hummingbirds on the bush outside the house one day. Another day, I startled a dove that was nesting in the cholla. The evenings invited me outside. Walks with my camera centered me and when I returned to write, I found myself more attune to the landscape of the piece I was working on. I was able to finish a memoir project while I was at the CJE house. Usually, when I sit down to write, I'm also lining up all the other things I need to get done that day. At the CJE house, what I needed to do was write. It was a beautiful gift.
